Massachusetts Receives Mixed Grades From American Lung Association

A new report from the American Lung Association says that Massachusetts does some things well. But, others not so much.

The report says the state flunks out when it comes to spending on smoking cessation programs and only slightly better, a “D” when it comes to availability of programs.

The State of Tobacco Control report also says that the state scores an “A” for having smoke free air and a “C” when it comes to the tax rate on a pack of smokes. That comes in at more than $3.50 a pack.

The authors of the report say that the state should fund tobacco prevention and smoking cessation programs as well as increase the tax on cigarettes.
