New Phone Scam Happening In Mashpee

Mashpee Police are alerting us to a scam.

A caller with the Caller ID from the Mashpee Police, calls and tells the victim that their personal information was used for a rental car out of Texas and that the car had narcotics in it and a thousand dollars in fees were owed.

The resident hung up. But then was called again and threatened with arrest for hanging up on a Security Administration agent. There's no such law.

The victim was convinced to buy gift cards to make the case go away. Police say they do not operate in that manner. And they are asking that you have a conversation with the elderly to make sure they don’t become victims.
