A rescue team saved an entangled humpback whale off the coast of the Cape on Monday.
The young whale was swimming with a group of 40 to 50 humpbacks off the coast of Chatham when a response team from the Center for Coastal Studies arrived.
Also making it a challenging operation besides the whale swimming in the large group was the fact that the rope did not have any visibly trailing loose ends that would normally be used to remove it.
The center says the whale was in relatively poor condition and had likely been entangled for some time. It will be monitored.
