Rep. Tim Whelan gets head shaved to raise money for cancer research

This morning State Representative Timothy Whelan (R-Brewster) joined with Governor Charlie Baker, Secretary Matthew Beaton, colleagues from the House of Representatives, Quincy Mayor Tom Koch, as well as sports celebrities David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz, Ray Bourque, Troy Brown, Red Sox President Sam Kennedy, Joe Andruzzi, and other members of the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots to have their heads shaved to raise funds for cancer research. Today’s 6th annual “Saving by Shaving” event was hosted by Rob Hale, President and CEO of Granite Telecommunications, the Hale family, and the staff at Granite’s offices in the City of Quincy.

“Today, through the generosity of the Hale family and the outstanding employees at Granite Telecommunications, over $6.5 million was raised for Boston Children’s Hospital to fund cancer research”, Rep. Whelan said in a statement. “This is my third year participating in this event and this year I did it with so many friends and family who battled cancer in mind, including my wife Lisa. For having his head shaved today, a $25,000 donation will be made in Rep. Whelan’s name to Boston Children’s Hospital toward cancer research.
