Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down five cents this week, and are the lowest prices locally in 18 months, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA’s February 11 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.34 per gallon. The Massachusetts price is seven cents higher than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.27. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was twenty-two cents higher at $2.56.
“The northeast continues to have some of the strongest supplies of gasoline anywhere in the country,” said Mary Maguire, Director of Public and Legislative Affairs. “This has helped keep prices from rising, unlike the jumps being seen in half of the nation.”
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 90 cents, from a low of $2.15 to a high of $3.05. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
