Chatham Fund Awards $30K in Grants to 12 Nonprofits

The Chatham Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded $30,000 in grants to 12 nonprofit organizations serving the town’s residents.

“This year’s grant recipients are doing extremely important work in our community,” said Henry R. Holden, Chair of The Chatham Fund’s Advisory Committee. “They are helping residents facing extreme financial hardships, providing engaging educational and recreational opportunities for children, supporting job training for people with disabilities, advancing our understanding of the fishing community, and leading critical environmental projects.”

This year’s recipients are:

Cape Abilities, $2,500 To support job training for local adults and high school students with disabilities at the Farm Store in the Old Village in Chatham

Cape Cod Children’s Place, $1,000 To support outdoor, play-based experimental education sessions for children ages 5-8 in the Monomoy School District

Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance, Inc, $1,500 To support the “Storytelling” program through the production of video mini-documentaries and podcasts so members of the community can learn more about the lives, struggles, and successes of local fishermen

Chatham Marconi Maritime Center, $2,000 To support the STEM After-Hours Program for students living in Chatham

Friends of Chatham Waterways, $1,000 To support training and the methodology for the Pond Water Testing Program which will scientifically test six of Chatham's ponds for cyanobacteria levels

The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, $5,000 To support food for Chatham residents in need

Harwich Ecumenical Council for Housing, $2,000 To support The Children's Center Tuition Assistance Program for Chatham youth

Homeless Prevention Council, $2,000 To help provide a variety of services and case management to residents of Chatham who need help developing a plan and path to self-sufficiency

Lower Cape Outreach Council, $3,000 To support emergency mortgage, rent & shelter costs for Chatham residents

Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, $3,000 To support the Chatham Elementary School Conservation Science Education Program

Monomoy Community Services for the Chatham Children’s Fund, $5,000 To support programs that assist Chatham youth.

Pleasant Bay Community Boating, $2,000 To support First Sail and Monomoy Community Center Sailing Programs.

A group of residents established The Chatham Fund to build a permanent endowment for the town through private donations and to provide grants to nonprofit organizations that enhance the quality of life in the community. Since 2013, the Fund has invested $122,845 back into the Chatham community. Two other Cape towns have similar funds with the Foundation: Falmouth and Sandwich.
