A water main break resulted in a shortened school day for the students and staff at Sandwich High School.
Sandwich school officials alerted parents through social media posts that the students would be dismissed shortly after 11 a.m.
The break, which was behind the high school, resulted in the school not having running water or water for the sprinkler system. That resulted in the fire alarms going off which sent students and staff outside. Sandwich Public Schools Superintendent Pamela Gould said it was apparent the problem was severe enough to warrant sending everyone home.
The water main was fixed later in the day and Sandwich High School is expected to open at its normal time this morning.
