Bomb threats were emailed to organizations and businesses across the United States Thursday and two of them were received by the Steamship Authority.
SSA communications director Sean Driscoll says two emailed bomb threats were received around 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon referencing the Nantucket terminal and the Mashpee reservations office.
The threats reportedly demanded payment in cryptocurrency in exchange for not detonating an explosive device that was allegedly left at the facilities named in the email.
Both locations were searched by SSA staff and local authorities and were deemed safe. The staff also performed searches of all the authority’s other facilities and vessels.
