The body of a missing 26-year old swimmer off Truro has been recovered by rescue crews.
The body was recovered shortly after 7:30 a.m. Sunday about one mile north of Ballston Beach a.m. The victim was last seen swimming near Ballston Beach on Saturday. It was then that watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England were alerted that a person was in the water at 2:30 p.m. A response boat crew from Coast Guard Provincetown and rescue aircrew from Air State Cape Cod began an extensive search of the area. The search was halted Saturday night and resumed Sunday morning where the man’s body was discovered.
A Massachusetts State Police helicopter, a dive team from the Sandwich Fire Department, and the Truro Fire Department all assisted in the search and recovery.
The man’s identity has not been released.
The National Park Service and the Massachusetts State Police are investigating the incident.
