An overnight crash in Sandwich has left a mother and two youngsters with serious injuries.
It happened just before 1 a.m. when a car drove off of Cotuit Road near Farmersville Road and into a tree.
First responders say the vehicle was heavily damaged and the 40-year old woman was entrapped in the driver’s seat. It took almost 45 minutes for firefighters to free her from the wreck. She was taken to South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth. Her injuries, while serious, were not deemed life-threatening.
The two young children were seriously hurt and two MedFlight helicopters were requested to the scene. One youngster was listed in critical condition at Mass General Hospital in Boston. The other child was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island. He was suffering from serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Officials have not released the identities or extent of the injuries to the three. Sandwich Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
