NOAA Fisheries has announced that a voluntary vessel speed restriction zone has been established to protect a group of three right whales sighted east of Race Point on May 5.
Mariners are requested to avoid the zone or transit at 10 knots or less inside the area through May 19.
This is in addition to the mandatory speed restrictions of 10 knots or less are in effect in the following areas:
Cape Cod Bay in effect through May 15
Great South Channel in effect through July 31.
