Hyannis Woman Indicted On Mail Fraud Charges

A Hyannis woman has been indicted on mail fraud charges.

Ashley Barrett, 25, was charged in federal court in Boston on seven counts of mail fraud in connection with a lottery scheme.

Court documents say that between September 2012 and January 2016, Barrett, allegedly, was part of a group of people who devised a scheme to defraud people across the country by telling them they had won millions of dollars in a lottery and that they could receive those winnings by paying a fee.

A charge of mail fraud calls for a sentence of no greater than 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
