Cape Cod Group Doubles Efforts to Save Right Whales

The Center for Coastal Studies has stepped up efforts to protect the endangered North Atlantic right whale.

The Center says its one thousand Friends of Right Whales drive will concentrate on the two major threats to the whales; ship strikes and entanglement from fishing gear.

It is believed there are fewer than 450 right whales left on earth and lately, reproduction has been down significantly.

The Center for Coastal Studies says its new campaign will expand aerial surveillance and habitat monitoring off the coasts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire and by partnering with businesses, it hopes to raise $100,000 towards that effort.
