The Barnstable County Commissioners were unanimous in voting to support the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office bid to partner with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
The Sheriff’s Office has expressed interest in taking part in ICE’s 2-8-7-G program that will give Sheriff personnel access to ICE’s databases to check the immigration status of people convicted of a crime in Barnstable County.
If the ICE Program Advisory Board approves Barnstable County’s participation in the program, it would be the third county in Massachusetts to take part, joining Plymouth and Bristol counties.
