The Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod is in need of volunteers for this year’s “Big Fix” which takes place in Falmouth on September 16.
The annual day of service, now in its eighth year, assembles more than 200 volunteers who make small home improvements for income-eligible seniors, veterans, and disabled homeowners in a particular Cape Cod community.
This year, HAC received a record 65 applications from homeowners seeking assistance. From those applications, HAC will select between 12 and 15 homeowners who will benefit from the program.
HAC is seeking both skilled and unskilled volunteers willing to donate a few hours working on such projects as landscaping, trash removal, repairing decks, fences, chairs, interior or exterior painting, and replacing shingles, or doing light carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
As part of this year’s Big Fix, HAC is encouraging volunteers to expand their impact even further by serving as fundraisers. Funds raised will go to offset the roughly $50,000 it costs to organize the Big Fix, and help support HAC’s programs such as homelessness prevention, foreclosure counseling, reverse mortgage counseling and weatherization programs which allow residents to remain in their homes and off the streets.
Anyone interested in helping out can register as a Big Fix volunteer, Big Fix fundraiser, or both, at HAC's website.
