Quick Action by Bystanders Saves Drowning Teen

A young man is alive this morning thanks to the quick action of bystanders at Jenkins Pond in Falmouth.

Falmouth Police say beach goers saw the young man struggling in the water, having a difficult time staying afloat.

One woman went in to the water with a flotation device but in his panic, he grabbed the woman and pushed her under water in an effort to stay above the surface.

Back on shore, Brian Matthews of Quincy heard the screams for help from his nearby rental, rushed to the water and found the teenager at the bottom of the pond. Matthews was able to bring the youngster to shore where bystanders performed CPR until Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and transported him to Falmouth Hospital.

Police credit the quick action by Matthews and others for saving the youngster’s life.
