Three people were injured Saturday night when a Steamship Authority ferry hit a manually operated passenger gangway in Woods Hole.
In a statement from the SSA, the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket SSA ferry “Martha’s Vineyard” was departing the Woods Hole terminal for its 7:30 p.m. trip to Oak Bluffs when it struck the gangway, which was extended beyond the platform.
As a result, three windows on the ferry’s mezzanine deck were shattered with the broken glass hitting three passengers on the ferry. None of the three people required medical treatment according to the Steamship Authority which also said after assessing the situation, the ferry continued its run to Oak Bluffs and also made its last two scheduled runs for the evening. However, instead of staying in Vineyard Haven overnight, the boat returned to Woods Hole for maintenance.
