It appears that Falmouth High School seniors who wanted administrators to move this year’s graduation ceremony from the field house to the school’s football field, have exhausted their final appeal.
The students argued that the field held special significance because of an undefeated season and winning the state football championship last fall, and also due to the loss of two members of the winning team who died in a car accident just a few days before Christmas.
Last week, school administrators said “no” to the students request because of concerns some of the graduates could be “re-traumatized” by the deaths of James Lavin and Owen Higgins.
Last night a group of students went before the school committee, asking them to override the school officials’ decision and approve holding graduation on Fuller Field.
After a lengthy and, at times, emotional discussion Tuesday night, the school committee voted to back the administration and hold graduation in the field house.
