Barnstable Airport Down to One Runway

Barnstable Municipal Airport will be down one runway for much of the spring and summer seasons. Work is underway on the reconstruction of one of the airports two runways and is expected to last into August.

Having only one runway could cause some major headaches for the upcoming summer season.  Statistics show Barnstable Municipal Airport is the state’s third busiest behind Logan and Nantucket Memorial.

Wind and weather conditions will dictate whether travelers will be able to land on the one runway that will remain open or whether a flight is diverted elsewhere for landing.

The eight-phase project has a projected cost of $9.5 million. FAA grants will pay for 90% of the reconstruction, five percent will come from the state and five percent from the town of Barnstable.
