Crocker, Whelan Look to Improve Child Safety in MA

State Representatives Will Crocker (R-Centerville) and Tim Whelan (R-Brewster) have joined forces to file legislation aimed at closing a loophole that they say will improve child safety in Massachusetts.

That loophole prevents communication between police and the state Department of Children and Families investigators. Currently, DCF investigators are not named as parties with whom police can share information often obtained during first response to domestic violence calls. The legislation, entitled “An Act to Improve Child Safety,” would include DCF investigators among those able to receive such information.

Crocker says the matter was brought to his attention by Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson.

The legislation, HD 3882, has been filed with the House Clerk’s office pending its assignment to a legislative committee for a hearing.
