Sandwich could be getting a considerable refund from the Army Corps of Engineers.
If the federal agency agrees to pay the entire cost for its study of the town’s sand problems at Town Neck Beach, called the 111 Study, Sandwich would be in line to receive $350-thousand, which was the town’s share for last year’s Federal Interest Determination that indicated there is substantial evidence to suggest the jetties of the Cape Cod Canal are the cause of the sand problems for the town’s beaches.
If the 111 Study proves that the jetties are responsible for taking the sand out of Sandwich’s beaches, federal law allows up to $10 million to be used to rebuild those beaches.
