Eversource plans to invest $36 million into its statewide tree trimming program for 2017.
The utility says identifying and removing drought-stressed trees is a priority in an effort to reduce tree-related power outages.
The program on the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard involves about 250 miles of power lines in five communities. Statewide, Eversource will inspect more than 3,000 miles of powerlines.
The utility says homeowners are responsible for tree maintenance on their own property.
