The Cape Cod Museum of Art presents: Revisiting “Ninth Street Women” Lecture and Discussion with Laura Shabott

Saturday, August 24, 10:30 – 12:30 pm.

Member $12 / Non-Member $20 (non-member ticket includes Museum admission)

The book, Ninth Street Women by Mary Gabriel, is the inspiration for this two-hour lecture by Laura Shabott. Back by popular demand, Shabott will revisit the art and lives of five women during the Abstract Expressionist movement: Lee Krasner, Elaine De Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Hartigan, and Joan Mitchell. Often overshadowed by husbands and male critics, these women are being honored, exhibited, and studied now. We will also explore the regional ties of Frankenthaler to Cape Cod.

Everyone is welcome and will leave with a greater understanding of these seminal artists. Non-Member ticket includes Museum admission for the day of the event.

Laura Shabott is an artist, educator, and gallerist living and working in Provincetown. She teaches figure drawing and painting at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and is a recipient of the inaugural AFCC and Assets for Artists Capacity Building Grant. Shabott is represented regionally by Berta Walker Gallery of Provincetown.
