Kratom Crackdown In Massachusetts

Massachusetts is cracking down on kratom, an opioid-like substance that is unregulated.

Its currently available at gas stations, smoke shops and convenience stores in forms including powder, tablets and gummies.

Under the emergency order, kratom will be placed in a drug class with high potential for abuse that already includes heroin and LSD.

Governor Maura Healey said kratom is being sold with little oversight and people have no way of knowing what they are buying or how potent it is.

Rhode Island lawmakers have reversed course and have legalized kratom in the state.
