Authorities Investigate SSA Vessel Incident

Marine inspectors have examined the Steamship Authority's Island Home vessel and verified its structural integrity following an incident at the Vineyard Haven Terminal.

The SSA says a minivan drove across the vehicle deck at a high rate of speed prior to boarding Wednesday morning and hit the stern loading doors.

The Tisbury Fire Department rescued one person from the vehicle and they were taken to the hospital.

No other passengers or crew members were injured and the incident remains under investigation.

Repairs on the vessel were finished by around 5:30 p.m. and it was back online with its 6:15 p.m. trip from Woods Hole.
