Cape Cod Officials Post Safety Tips For Beachgoers

Cape Cod officials have posted safety tips to keep beachgoers safe in the water this summer.

Rip currents are one of the leading hazards in the waters of the Cape and they can quickly pull even the strongest swimmers away from shore.

When caught in a rip current, don't panic and swim parallel to the shore until free of the pull.

Beachgoers should swim in areas with certified lifeguards on duty when possible and keep children within arms' reach when in the water.

Individuals should never swim alone and be sure to stay out of the water at night.

Always heed beach closures and shark advisory flags and watch for jellyfish and seals that could cause injuries.
