The Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners continued its series of off-site meetings in Eastham Wednesday, addressing climate planning and drought conditions.
Cape Cod Commission Executive Director Kristy Senatori introduced Eastham's Draft Climate Action Plan and Deputy Director Steven Tupper presented the plan and its broader relevance for climate planning on Cape Cod.
Tim Pasakarnis, a Water Resources Analyst with the Cape Cod Commission presented a regional overview of drought conditions and the water supply, with a focus on the Outer Cape and Eastham's groundwater system.
Currently, Cape Cod remains in a Level Two - Significant Drought based on data tracking precipitation, groundwater, and surface water conditions.
Although there has been recent snowfall and rain, much of the water has not reached the aquifer due to frozen ground.
