Scammers Have Been Busy Targeting Cape Cod Residents

Scammers have been busy targeting Cape Cod residents.

In Eastham, police received reports of text messages regarding summonses or parking tickets. One of the recipients was an officer from the Police Department.

The Barnstable County Sheriff's Office says scammers are sending texts regarding arrest warrants.

Officials say legitimate arrest warrants are never sent by text, and they have posted examples of the scam texts online.

Scammers are also sending messages claiming to be from the Massachusetts Registry of Moror Vehicles, telling recipients they owe tolls and if they don't pay, the vehicle registration will be suspended and they will be fined.
