Wayne Kurker is the owner/operator of Hyannis Marina, going on 50 years.
Wayne grew up in Boston and was fortunate to have always summered on Cape Cod.
During high school, he worked at a sailboat rental stand at what is now called Covell Beach. During college, he started a seasonal business with two partners in Harwich selling and renting Hobie Cats and Sunfish, while teaching sailing.
In 1976, Wayne recognized an opportunity at Hyannis Marina, where he first worked as a mechanic. With a passion for the boating and maritime industries, he pushed forward and tripled the marina in size, turning it into one of the prominent marinas on the east coast.
Hyannis Marina now has 170 slips hosting everything from small boats to world class mega yachts and features a service center, a boat sales center, a ship store and two well-known waterfront restaurants on property, Trader Ed's and Tugboats.
Wayne is deeply committed to Hyannis and the local business community and continually advocates for Hyannis. The first of the many committees he worked on was “The Committee to Revitalize Hyannis” in 1977. He was the founder of, and is still involved with, the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound.
Wayne met his wife Peggy in Hyannis, and they have 2 children, Julia and Jared. He also has 5 grandchildren.
Wayne continues to spend his spare time enjoying the ocean.
