Nantucket has filed a federal appeal regarding the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's permitting for the SouthCoast Wind project.
Nantucket claims BOEM admitted that the project would adversely affect the historic district which powers the tourism economy but failed to address those harms.
In addition, Nantucket alleges that BOEM violated the preservation and environmental laws requiring federal agencies to find ways to avoid, minimize, or mitigate harm to historic properties before approving projects.
The lawsuit also claims BOEM failed to consider project harms, like the turbine blade failures that happened with the neighboring Vineyard Wind Project.
