Gay Head Lighthouse Work To Take Longer Than Expected

Restoration work on the Gay Head lighthouse will take longer than expected.

The work was originally set for completion by May 1, but damage to the lantern deck was more extensive than anticipated.

In addition, when crews removed the brickwork, they found the tie-downs were more heavily damaged than expected, requiring their removal and repair.

The project is now expected to be finished in early June. According to gayheadlight.org, this is the ten-year anniversary of the lighthouse's move from the eroding cliffs and there will be a June 20 event to celebrate the re-opening of a newly refreshed lighthouse.
