Bourne has been deemed to be in interim compliance with the MBTA Communities Act.
The law requires cities and towns serviced by MBTA transit offerings to establish at least one multi-family housing zoning district, which Bourne voters will be asked to approve.
Bourne is the only location on Cape Cod required to comply with the law, despite the fact that no commuter train runs there.
Bourne is considered an adjacent small town, with the closest commuter rail stop 20 miles away in Middleboro.
