Policy Change On Cape Cod Canal Sand Dredging

The Army Corps of Engineers has changed its policy, regarding sand dredged from the Cape Cod Canal.

The routine dredge work saw the Corps dispose of the sand in Cape Cod Bay.

Now the Corps will deposit the sand on Town Neck Beach in Sandwich.

Town Manager Bud Dunham says the sand will be used to replace what the beach has lost to storms and erosion over the past several years.

Dredging is expected to take place off Scusset Beach later this year, and Dunham believes at least 225-thousand cubic yards will be brought in.
