Local Officials Survey Damage From Storm

Officials on Martha's Vineyard are assessing the damage from Monday, with some calling it a "perfect storm."

Beaches and dunes in Edgartown, especially those facing the south, have been decimated by the high winds, waves, and storm surge, and a portion of Atlantic Avenue along South Beach has collapsed.

On Chappaquiddick, Wasque Beach was heavily damaged, as was the Long Point Wildlife Refuge.

Conservation officials note most winter storms come out of the northeast, unlike this one.

In addition, they have not been able to access some areas to estimate the damage but are considering remediation plans.
