Falmouth Fire Chief Ready For "Surge"

Falmouth Fire Chief Tim Smith is laying out his plans for the staffing surge that's coming his way.

Voters this week approved a tax hike of about 45-bucks a year for the average property owner to pay for 14 additional firefighters.

Smith says he's looking to hire seven by this fall and the other seven by the fall of next year.

The newbies will play a big role in filling the new Hatchville station when it opens in the spring.

Select Board Chair Nancy Taylor says the panel is committed to seeing that all of Falmouth's fire stations are fully staffed 24-seven, year-round.
