Environmental Official Fired Over ACK Turf Field Proposal

Controversy over a proposal to install synthetic playing turf at the Martha’s Vineyard High School athletic complex is engulfing the Vineyard's neighboring island.

The Inquirer and Mirror reports Nantucket school officials have terminated the contract of Laura Green, an environmental consultant hired to advise on a proposed overhaul of the ACK High School athletic center, which includes two artificial turf fields.

Green has come under criticism for downplaying the health impacts of synthetic turf containing PFAS contaminants.

Both Martha’s Vineyard newspapers report the Environmental Protection Agency has disavowed many of the claims she has made regarding PFAS safety.
