Steamship Authority Investigates Ship Malfunction

A Steamship Authority official said at an SSA Port Council meeting on Wednesday that there would be further engineering review of an incident on a vessel earlier this week.

A video shot by a passenger showed flames and sparks coming out of one of the exhaust stacks on the freight ferry Katama on Monday.

Director of marine operations Mark Amundsen says the initial indication was that the exhaust stack was functioning normally.

The Steamship Authority said there were no injuries reported.
