Susan Moran Defeats Jay McMahon For State Senate Seat

Susan Moran has won the Special Election to fill the vacant State Senate seat of Vinny deMacedo.

In the end, Moran, the Democrat, beat the Republican Jay McMahon by about 2,000 votes.

Moran won Falmouth by more than 2,000 votes and Sandwich by 200 votes.

There has been no date for Moran's swearing in. The seat has been vacant since deMacedo resigned from the senate to take a job in higher education.

That was not the only race on the docket.

In Falmouth, the former School Superintendent Nancy Taylor has won a seat on the Selectboard. She won a three person race to take that seat.

There was also a Prop 2 and a half override---in which residents said yes to the hiring of 8 new firefighters. The Town Meeting must also say yes before that goes on the books.

Officials say it looks like about 24% of the electorate cast ballots.
