'Blade Runner' Star Rutger Hauer Dead At 75

Rutger Hauer, the actor best known for co-starring with Harrison Ford in Blade Runner, has passed away, as per TMZ. He was 75.

According Hauer's agent, the star died in his home in the Netherlands on Friday (July 19) after a short illness. His funeral took place today. Despite his five-decade long career in Hollywood with films like The Hitcher and Sin City on his resume, Hauer is most known for playing Roy Batty in the 1982 sci-fi film. For longtime fans of the classic, which was directed by Ridley Scott, his character is beloved for a famous speech he gives during his face-off with Ford at the end of the film. "I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion," he said during the scene. "I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

Back in 1988, Hauer took home a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in the TV series, Escape from Sobibor, and was nominated once again in 1995 for Fatherland. In recent years, Hauer had a supporting role on HBO's True Blood and went full vampire in the 2004 mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot.
