Massachusetts Environmental Police say they arrested a man for illegally taking herring from Herring Brook in Eastham.
Police say a coordinated effort provided them with evidence of the the illegal harvesting. Police haven’t released the man’s name.
Officials do say that the river herring have been a protected species for nearly 15 years.
“Preservation of these natural resources is crucial to the sustainability of our marine environment,” according to a statement from the M-E-P.
