Carnegie Hero Award/Barnstable Recipient

BPD/Carnegie Hero Award

3/7/19

A Barnstable resident will be honored next week with the presentation of the Carnegie Medal from the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.

The Commission was created in 1904 by Andrew Carnegie to recognize outstanding acts of selfless heroism performed by those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the life of another.

David Duncan is being presented the medal for a selfless, heroic act in which he disarmed a knife wielding attacker as the suspect prepared to assault an unaware Barnstable Police Officer who was involved in a struggle with another suspect.

The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 13th, at 10 A.M. at the Barnstable Police Department and is open to the public.
