BREAKING: Search Underway for Missing Fishermen

A search is underway at this hour for two missing fishermen after their fishing boat, Mistress, capsized this morning off Block Island.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a mayday call around 1:30 a.m. from the captain of the Mistress stating the boat was taking on water near the Block Island Wind Farm.

A nearby fishing boat, the Captain Bligh, responded to the scene and was able to rescue one fisherman, reporting the Mistress had capsized and two crew members were missing.

A Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod and a 45-foot response boat from Station Point Judith were dispatched to the area but both were forced to return because of unsafe weather conditions.

The 110-foot Coast Guard Cutter Sanibel and a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Montauk are en route to the scene. Winds were reported to be 30 to 35 knots with ten foot seas.

The Mistress is homeported out of Point Judith, Rhode Island.
