Deadly Cold Spell for Sea Turtles

The areas recent cold snap has been deadly to sea turtles off the coast of Cape Cod.

A higher number than usual have been washing ashore, many of which are the critically endangered Kemp’s ridley turtle.

Nearly 220 turtles were reported washed ashore from Wednesday through Friday with more than 170 not surviving the cold.

The number of stranded turtles this year has already surpassed what is considered normal for the season. Cold-stunned turtles usually continue to be found ashore through Christmas.
