Wareham PD Seeks Public's Help in ID'ing Suspects

Wareham Police are asking the public for help in identifying three individuals accused of shoplifting and assaulting a 76-year old man.

Officers responded to a call Thursday evening around 6 p.m. to Walmart for what was initially reported as a hit-and-run. The vehicle involved was reported to be a blue Honda last seen traveling east on Cranberry Highway.

When the officer Eric Machado arrived on the scene, he saw an older male employee on the asphalt being attended to by citizens. The investigation, which involved video surveillance from the store, revealed the employee had attempted to stop three individuals who had exited the store through a fire exit with a shopping cart full of items that they were trying to put into the vehicle. On two occasions the suspects knocked the man to the ground before fleeing the scene.

The suspects had removed the license plates from their vehicle but the employee managed to break off a windshield wiper for evidence.

The victim was taken to Tobey Hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries.

The Detective Division of the Wareham Police Department is actively investigating the case and asking for the public’s help in identifying these suspects.
