The Mitchell River Bridge in Chatham has been re-opened following emergency repairs Monday afternoon.
Chatham officials announced last week that the bridge, between Stage Harbor Road and Main Street, would stay in the closed position until those repairs could be made. The ongoing issue was associated with the weather. The bridge is constructed of steel and wood and the hot, humid weather was causing it to expand and contract making it nearly impossible to close the brdge once it was opend for boat traffic.
