The 39th Pan-Mass Challenge takes place this weekend with a record 6,300 bicyclists entered in the event that raises money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.
Riders start Saturday in Sturbridge or Wellesley and pedal to the Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay. On Sunday, it’s over the canal to Provincetown.
The event has grown tremendously since its inception when 36 riders entered and raised $10,200.
Last year, the event raised a record $51 million. Since that first year in 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge has raised $598 million.
