Army Corps Mulls Postponing Bourne Bridge Work

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is considering requests by the Cape Cod business community to put off planned work on the Bourne Bridge until the spring of 2019. The near 3-month work is scheduled to take place between the end of the Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving.

Similar to the work recently done on the Sagamore Bridge, the work would result in closing one lane of travel in each direction on the bridge for the duration of the work.

When the Army Corps initially announced the work schedules for both bridges, it was not met favorably by local businesses, chambers of commerce, or state legislators.

Even though the work on the Sagamore Bridge finished ahead of the scheduled two months it was planned for, it did result in significant traffic delays in both directions.
