MV Commission Okays Stop & Shop Expansion

By a vote of 11-to-1 with two abstentions, the Martha’s Vineyard Commission voted Thursday night to approve the Edgartown Stop & Shop expansion plan. However, the approval is subject to a list of conditions.

The Vineyard and Gazette reports the Commissioners were concerned about traffic issues but said the benefits of the expansion outweighed whatever inconvenience the project might impose on residents. Part of the conditions is taking another look at the design of the building.

The project will involve a total overhaul of the upper Main street Edgartown store, doubling the size, plus re-configuring the parking lot.
