Quick Thinking By Bourne Officer Saves Life

Quick thinking and action by a Bourne Police officer saved the life of a Sagamore Beach area resident.

Officer Peter Blake was patrolling the area when he came upon a vehicle in a driveway with its doors open and no one in sight.

He proceeded to investigate the matter and approached the house to speak with the homeowner. Blake was unable to raise anyone by knocking on the door but he detected a strong odor of exhaust from inside the house. The officer was able to gain entry into the house where he discovered an unconscious male in the garage on the floor next to a running vehicle. Blake was able to pull the man outside where he eventually regained consciousness and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. Bourne firefighters detected carbon monoxide levels well above hazardous levels in the house.

The incident was determined to be accidental.
