Coast Guard, Samaritan, Rescue 5 Off Cape Waters


The U.S. Coast Guard, with some assistance from a Good Samaritan, rescued five people 18 miles south of Nomans Land on Sunday after their boat caught on fire.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern received a radio call around

10 a.m. reporting a 32-foot recreational boat, “Finale” had caught on fire and he had taken the five people on to his boat.

A Station Menemsha 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew launched and arrived on scene where they reported the five people were in good health and the Finale had capsized.

The Coast Guard took the five people aboard the Lifeboat and brought them to Woods Hole where family was waiting for them.

A commercial salvage company recovered the Finale.
